We work with a wide variety of clients at focused+fit. For the clients looking to lose weight, the initial conversations are surprisingly familiar.

I know what I need to do, I just need to do it.

I know I need to eat out less.

I know I need to meal prep.

I know I need to exercise.

And honestly, most of the time they are right. So what happens between the knowing and the actual doing? Turns out there are about a hundreds small steps between every one of those things people know they need to do. Like if you want to eat out less, that means you need to put together a grocery list, find time to shop, cook all the food, pack food to take with you and then actually eat it. And that’s on top of negotiating jobs, family care and a million other responsibilities. Also what do I cook?! Keto. Paleo. Low fat. It’s so confusing!

This is where a coach can really help. Rather than dictating a single, dogmatic approach, we work with you to identify your goals, lifestyle and challenges to help build an approach that works for you. We also work to break it down into bite-sized pieces. As we’ve already noted, trying to jam a 100 net new activities into your already, incredibly crowded week is an impossibly tall order. Usually we can find a couple of easy things to do differently, achieve success and build from there step-by-step.

The other thing we try to is help you make peace with the timeline for change and what it takes to sustain your health. Most people start with a new scale weight as their primary goal, but we see that as representative of all the underlying changes we are here to help you make. We aren’t a 30-day crash diet to move the scale. We are a program designed to help you improve your health, make long-term changes and teach you what is required to sustain your goals. For some people that’s minor tweaks. For others, they need six to 18 months of support as they make major transitions and work to get comfortable with maintaining.

But here’s the big IF: You have to decide if you’re coachable. That means being open to change and input.

Are You ready to accept that your lifestyle will have to be different to achieve different results? Are You willing to try new things and engage in the process? Are You willing to share your very personal feelings about how you’re feeling and be vulnerable?

That sounds a whole lot more intimidating than I just need to eat right, but it’s this digging in that helps people make lasting change and where it can be so helpful to have another person working with you. We bring knowledge to the table to help guide your approach, but we also provide an outside perspective. We hold you accountable to your goals and help you connect the dots of why things may not be working when it feels like you’re doing everything possible to make things work. And we’re always in your corner, 100 percent of the time to encourage you and remind you why you reached out to us in the first place when it seems like too much.

This is why we are so much more than a meal plan or a program to follow. We are in it with you to help you keep pushing forward to get to your goal and ultimately do all the things on your list, bit by bit in a way that works for you.

So what do you think? Are you coachable? We are ready when you are.
