Energize yourself

What you eat each day plays a vital role in how energetic you feel. Maintaining a proper balance with healthy fats, fruits, veggies, water, and other nutritional goodies will undoubtedly help. However, there are different ways to help use that food as fuel to give you the energy you need.

If you have ever wondered why some people seem more energetic naturally, now you can steal their secrets with these six ways to get more natural energy through the foods you eat.

1. Eat smaller meals more often

Try breaking your meals into smaller meals more often throughout the day.

Switching to consuming small meals every several hours rather than going for three large meals each day can help you keep your energy stabilized throughout the day.

This is especially ideal if you typically feel sluggish between meals. You may even begin to realize you don’t get that post-lunch afternoon slump anymore. Keep it small and nutritious, and you’ll find yourself feeling much more energetic and sustained throughout your day.

2. No crash dieting

It won’t come as a surprise that crash dieting isn’t the preferred approach to focusing on your health. Concentrate on eating healthy, whole foods without skipping out on meals or essential nutrients will get you to where you want to be.

Poor nutrition and a lack of proper calorie intake lead to fatigue. For the most natural, sustainable energy, you can focus on filling your plate with healthy, whole foods and being committed to proper hydration.

3. Balance your coffee intake

We are used to reaching for the coffee when we need a jolt of energy. But just like anything else, it’s possible to have too much of a good thing.

If you have a cup of coffee in the morning or before an important meeting, you may feel sharper.  Avoid consuming caffeine in large quantities, though, especially after 2 pm, as it can keep you up at night, leading to exhaustion and less energy.

If coffee irritates you or causes you to crash, look for other energy sources that work better with your unique body.

4. Smart snacking

It might be tempting to grab some energy bars to throw in your bag for when you’re on the go. However, these energy bars are typically not what they’re made out to be. They’re often filled with sugar and other not-so-helpful ingredients that can cause a sugar crash in a hurry.

Instead, opt for snacks on the go, such as nuts, dried fruits, or homemade trail mix.  When you start eating for sustained energy instead of immediate energy, you’ll soon stop feeling so slow and sluggish. Imagine the possibilities of what you can accomplish when your mid-day slumps are a thing of the past.

5. Fill up on water

One of the most common reasons people feel fatigued is because they aren’t drinking enough water. Water carries nutrients to your cells and transports wastes out of there — your very own filtration system.

Make a habit of drinking enough water each day, and have even more when you’re exercising. This will help you feel hydrated, help keep your body running optimally and help keep your energy levels up.
